Point-in-Time Count Volunteer Training
The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count Volunteer Training is designed to prepare community members, partners, and service providers to safely and accurately conduct the annual homelessness census across Southern Nevada. This training provides volunteers with the essential knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to engage in field operations, interact respectfully with individuals experiencing homelessness, and collect high-quality data that shapes funding, services, and policy decisions for our region. By participating in this training, volunteers join a coordinated community effort dedicated to understanding local needs and strengthening the system of care that supports our most vulnerable neighbors
Southern Nevada Homeless Census Volunteer Training Part 1
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the current landscape of homelessness in Southern Nevada.
- Identify common signs and indicators of adults and youth experiencing homelessness.
- Explain the role, responsibilities of volunteers conducting the PIT Count.
- Prepare effectively for deployment, clothing and materials needed, and procedural steps.
Southern Nevada Homeless Census Volunteer Training Part 2
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe what to expect upon arrival at the census deployment site, including the sign-in and assignment process.
- Explain the roles and responsibilities of both the Lead Counter and the Lookout during the count.
- Demonstrate understanding of the required refresher training and critical safety precautions prior to deployment.
- Apply the correct procedures for conducting the count accurately and consistently.
- Follow essential safety tips to ensure personal and team safety throughout the deployment.
How to Download and Use the Mobile App
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Install and navigate the Survey123 for ArcGIS mobile application on their device.
- Access, open, and correctly use the assigned census survey within the app.
- Complete a full practice test survey to ensure readiness and accuracy before deployment.
- Follow all required procedures for the day of the count.
