Point In Time Count

Point-in-Time (PIT) Count

The Point-in-Time (PIT)  Count is an annual effort in Clark County to measure the number of people experiencing homelessness on a single night in January. This includes individuals staying in shelters as well as those living in places not meant for habitation. The count is part of a nationwide initiative to better understand homelessness and includes a short survey to gather information about the needs and circumstances of those affected. The Southern Nevada Homelessness Continuum of Care (SNHCoC) coordinates the PIT Count locally, working in partnership with community organizations and volunteers across the region.

Why is the PIT Count Important?

The PIT Count is important because it provides a crucial, single-night snapshot of homelessness that influences federal funding, shapes local strategies, and tracks trends over time. Mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the count is a primary source of data for measuring homelessness at both the national and community levels. While it reflects only one night, the count is strengthened by data gathered year-round through ongoing outreach and engagement efforts. This broader information helps provide a more complete picture of individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness across Southern Nevada.

What area does the Southern Nevada Continuum of Care cover for the PIT Count?

The SNHCoC serves the entire Southern Nevada region. To conduct the annual PIT Count, the SNHCoC works closely with local partners and jurisdictions to carry out thorough surveys across the area. The data collected is then organized and reported by the following subregions to support local planning and decision-making:

  • Boulder City
  • City of Las Vegas
  • City of North Las Vegas
  • City of Henderson
  • Clark County
  • Laughlin, NV
  • Mesquite

When is our next PIT Count?

Our next PIT Count is scheduled for:

January 29th, 2026

Volunteers should arrive by 4:00 AM, with teams beginning the count at 5:00 AM.

Operation HOME! is a community-wide effort to quickly and permanently house members of the Southern Nevada community who are in need of a home.

Our community is investing resources to get and keep tenants housed. Financial assistance, tenant case management and landlord support is available to make this happen.

Help find homes for 2,022 unhoused individuals by the end of 2022.

In Southern Nevada, we need more affordable rental units to help people in our community become financially independent and thrive. Our community needs more studio, 1 and 2 bedroom rentals as well as bigger units.
